While I didn’t attend Coachella this year, I did see Radiohead play in San Jose, California before they headed down to Indio for the festival. The set I saw was mind blowing. Below is their set from Coachella 2012.
Music discovery.

Yet again, Woolfy (of DFA, Permanent Vacation labels) comes to town this Friday, at Som Bar, with his space-disco beats in tow. Come to find out, this man is a party animal. Looking forward to see what he has to offer! Previously mentioned here before, I don’t think he will disappoint!

I was introduced to this band on myspace by a member of Goosepimp Orchestra, who I think will be the focus of my next post. They were described to me as being similar to Ratatat. They don’t have any lyrics and there are lots of hip beats and pleasurable sounds, and are similar to Ratatat in that way, but I think they are less hip hop and more electronic jazz. The first album I heard from them is Fire It Up, which is an awesome album for the most part. The end of the album slows down a bit though so if you are in an upbeat mood, I would stop after the eighth track (doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen to the whole thing). They are playing at the Middle East downstairs in Cambridge on Feb. 20th.

All I Do
I wish I had a better quality source for this song, but this is all I could find. Looks to be only released on vinyl, I’ll have to keep an eye out for this gem that I discovered at the No Way Back show on Saturday night, a bomb show that I showed up late and did not stay nearly long enough for:
Shows that is. The first one started off Thursday night with Home Video. The show was quite nostalgic after listening to the band for years and only now getting the chance to see them live. The real takeaway from the night was the opening band Kisses’ performance however. I wouldn’t be surprised if they blow up the Indie scene with force. The Lindstrom show is a bit hazy -- people have told me that I had a great time at the show, so I guess that’s my opinion on that. Brought some disco into the mix with the No Way Back 1 year anniversary show at the very cool 222 Hyde. DJ Conor was present and continues to pleasure with his modern interpretation of classic disco. I was really teetering on a 4th tonight, but in the end finally decided to call it a weekend. Anyway, the show that will undoubtedly be awesome, is that of Tensnake:

Holding Back My Love
It’s still show season and I’m off to another one tonight. This time it’s a band I’ve been a long time fan of, Home Video. My buddy Mike Lambert introduced me to the duo about 5 years ago and tomorrow night is the first time I’ve had the chance to see them play live. An EP and and an album has kept me interested all these years (though they have a new album coming out in about a week) and I’m really looking forward to what they will offer in a live set.
A couple of my favorite tracks,

Also at the show is Kisses, a band that I know relatively nothing about. However a quick exploration of some of their music on YouTube left me impressed enough to get there early and check them out.
I haven’t dived much into Lindstrom outside of his remix of LCD Soundsystem’s Tribulations:

But with his upcoming show at the Mezzanine in SF, I decided to check him out with a little more depth. I’m glad I did. Can’t wait to see what he’s going to drop at the show.

Matt and I have been discussing how Disco music is making a comeback…manipulated and rebranded in the indie dance genre. But the fundamentals are still there. Back in August, while waiting for Woolfy (himself being described as Space Disco) to play at 222 Hyde, a great local artist DJ Conor remixed a great Disco track. While I don’t have the version he played (not true, I have a low quality recording I made on my iPhone…probably not worthing listening to but still decent enough for me to remember the pleasurable experience), here is the original:

The saying “what goes around comes around” holds itself true in many different respects – apparently also in dance music! And of course, the reason behind me making this discovery, Woolfy:
