Just Some Kid!

Sometimes I feel that finding music that excites me is hard. I search and search, looking for the best of the best, something that pops. But then I hear an older track screaming out my radio getting me all excited again and im reminded “go back to that guy, hes prob got something new or old you haven’t heard” Well this post is all about my original find of Just Some Kid. Hes an amazing DJ, blending the best mix of music into a web of fantastical ear food.

This first track I found on Feelmybicep a while back and it really hit the spot.

This one is so far my fave, but feel free to get over to his soundcloud. Make sure you keep your ears open for shows with this guy spinning. It will be an amazing dance-fest.

Been a while since I posted -- prepping for Ultra Music Festival, among other things.  I predict that the festival will up my motivation to post.  But until then, here’s something to keep you occupied while I rave:

Selected Label Works 1 & 2 – A Christmas Present for You

This last weekend, I stumbled upon the compilation albums Selected Label Works 1 and Selected Label Works 2, by the Permanent Vacation label. I didn’t know much about the label or these 2 CD albums, but as I dived deeper into SLW 2 (I discovered the 2nd album first) I knew I had to find out more.  I was thrilled to find tracks and remixes by Woolfy and Tensnake, artists both of which I’ve mentioned before in previous posts.  Other favorites like Holy Ghost, Mock & Toof, and Junior Boys have remixes included on the albums.  Being a singles compilation, some might find it a bit weird to have the same track, albeit different versions, included on the album – but the way I see it, the boys at Permanent Vacation are just giving you the ability to decide for yourself which one is best.  Some of my favorites to enjoy:

Selected Label Works 1

Cut Copy: Huh?

Music | Posted by Aaron A
Dec 02 2010

Many are anticipating the new Cut Copy album, Zonoscope, myself included.  However I’m a bit discouraged since listening to the two tracks that have been released before the upcoming album release on February 8th.  Cut Copy quickly rose as one of my favorite bands when I first discovered them and I still routinely play the incredibly energetic and danceable songs that sucked me further and further into their fan base.  But now I’m left wondering if they have forgotten their dance roots and unique sound:

Take Me Over

At first I thought I was listening to an unreleased Fleetwood Mac track (no I didn’t read the soundcloud comments before I thought that).  80s synth plus indie “ooooh”ing doesn’t equal the same build up, hook, and drop that Cut Copy had perfected in their earlier albums.  How am I supposed to get crazy and dance like a fool in front of my friends to this?

Where I’m Going

Sure I dig 60s-like vocal harmonies and screaming shouts of “yeah” as much as the next person, but c’mon this is sway-able with a slow hand clap at best.

I won’t say my mind has been made up yet…I’m quietly hoping that after the two year break Cut Copy has taken that they’ve come up with at least a few tricks up  their sleeve.  But what I’ve heard so far has left me uneasy.  Some might feel like I’m being harsh, but wouldn’t you be too, after expecting something equal to the caliber of this:

I’ve been listening to these tracks for years and they are still fresh to me.  Try listening to the two first tracks again and again.  I confuse myself further when I listen to Cut Copy circa 2001:

Glittering Clouds

Makes you wonder, huh?  Has Cut Copy decided to just go Indie Electronic?  A metric that I feel is a huge measurement of musical success is how often Cut Copy’s music has been remixed and used by droves of artists and DJs.  Will we see the likes of Chromeo, Holy Ghost!, Hercules & Love Affair, Calvin Harris, Golden Filter, !!! and Digitalism feel the same way about upcoming Zonoscope?  I hope so.  I’m hoping to be proved wrong.  Prove me wrong, Cut Copy.  Please.

Royal Beats

With work being dicks today and deciding to ruin my music scene on the interwebs, i am now resorted to scouring the blog-o-sphere to find tracks that will play across our terribly controlled internet. Well didn’t take that long. Found this guy to day “Just Some Kid” (great name). He is apparently royalty or decedent from such and has been spinning since he was 14 for royalty. I love the 2nd track of this long playing remix. Keep rocking kid.

Who covers anything other than Thriller???

I think I’ve seen close to maybe 300 shows and I dont think I have ever seen anyone cover any other Michael Jackson song than Thriller. And they were bad at it to boot. Well The Brothers McCann just recently did a cover of Michael’s “Leave Me Alone”. My question is, you decide which is better, Brothers or Jackson?

Michael Jackson – Leave Me Alone
